Hamlett Sentenced to 20 Years, Ordered to Serve Three

CHARLOTTE COURT HOUSE – On August 5, 2020 Jason Ray Hamlett was sentenced on one charge of possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute (Tri-County Drug and Gang Task Force), one count of felony bad check, one count of forgery, and one count of uttering (Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office).

Hamlett was sentenced to 20 years with all but two years suspended on the possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, five years with all suspended but one year on the felony bad check, and 10 years 10 suspended on the remaining charges.

Hamlett will serve an active three-year sentence conditional on his good behavior for a period of 20 years and completion of two years supervised probation. He is also ordered to pay a $1000 fine on the drug charges and restitution of $567 to the victim in the bad check case. Hamlett will also be required to complete a substance abuse treatment assessment and follow all treatment recommendations given by his probation officer. He also is required to abstain from the use of alcohol and all illegal drugs and shall be subject to random drug and/or alcohol screens.

The drug charges were the result of an investigation by the Tri-County Drug and Gang Task Force. The Tri-County Drug and Gang Task Force is composed of Narcotics Investigators and Special Agents of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office, and the Virginia State Police Division III Bureau of Criminal Investigation Appomattox Field Office.
