Hamlet elected Charlotte Chairman of the Board

The Charlotte County Board of Supervisors met Monday January 5 for the annual organizational meeting.  Haywood Hamlet was elected chairman with Gary Walker elected as Vice-chairman.

BOS meetingThe meetings for 2015 will be held on the second Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. in the board room. Roberts’s Rules of Order for small groups as amended was adopted for the year.

Chairman elect Hamlet stated, “We have a lot of challenges before us in 2015. I hope this board can work together for all of our citizens. We know we aren’t going to please everyone. Everyone has an idea but we need to work for the taxpayers.”

Following the organizational meeting, a joint meeting was held with the Charlotte County Planning Commission. The joint meeting concerned a conditional use permit for Daniel Esh to locate a sawmill at 3070 Vincent Store Road, Charlotte Court House.  The mill will be family owned and operated and located on 260 acres with direct access to the highway.  In the public comment period Richard Turner of Rough Creek addressed the boards. Turner stated he has no personal objections but thought there might be a noise issue for those located close to the mill.

The application was recommended by the Planning Commission and approved by the board.
