Halifax Regional Merges with Sentara Healthcare

 February 1 marks another milestone in the Sentara Healthcare-Halifax Regional Health System partnership with the formal introduction of the Sentara Healthcare brand to the Southern Virginia community. Sentara is nationally recognized for its quality, innovation, advanced medical breakthroughs, expert physicians, customer satisfaction and patient safety.

 Since the merger was finalized in July 2013, Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital has been busy with development and expansion of surgical services, including general surgery and orthopedics; adding a new MRI machine; and approving the addition of another procedure room in the hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab.

 Near the end of 2014, Sentara Woodview and Sentara MeadowView Terrace senior care facilities each broke ground on expansions, adding 20 beds and 18 beds, respectively. Each facility will also add a new rehabilitation gym. The projects are expected to be complete in late 2015 or early 2016.

 The primary care and specialty physician offices have also added new healthcare providers at various practices, and Sentara Halifax Pediatrics opened in December. Fifteen new providers were added in 2014, with eight more slated to begin during the first half of 2015.

Lumsden. “The culture we’ve developed in Halifax over the past 60-plus years marries so well with the Sentara culture that it was only natural for us to move forward with implementing the Sentara brand. I believe our team is proud to see the Sentara brand in the communities we serve.”

As part of this Sentara brand introduction, Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital and its related facilities, including primary and specialty care practices, long-term care, home health and hospice are adopting the naming structure associated with Sentara Healthcare.

“Becoming part of the Sentara brand family further positions Halifax as the regional leader in providing quality healthcare,” said Lumsden. “We put a tremendous amount of thought into what our facilities’ names will be and how they will fit with the Sentara naming structure. The people we serve can be confident that the quality care those names represent will grow and strengthen thanks to the additional resources and expertise Sentara offers us.”
