H-SC football standout faces drug charges

Hampden-Sydney College standout running back Kyree Koonce faces drug charges after an arrest on February 19.

The Buckingham native was a huge part of the football team at H-SC this year as he was the leading rushing in the ODAC conference and was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year and was a Lanier Award finalist

Reports indicate that the charges were in Buckingham County and were for distribution/possession of marijuana.

H-SC officials noted that the charges were serious, but offered no information on any possible discipline from the school.

Koonce was a standout player at Buckingham High School before playing his final season at Monticello High School.
