DINWIDDIE – An accident last week injured long-time Lunenburg law enforcement officer Mike Landry when his gun discharged and he was struck in the arm while working on a duck blind at Fort Pickett.

Landry was with a friend at Sheep’s Log Lake in Fort Pickett on Friday morning when the accident took place around 8 am.

According to reports, Landry had placed his shotgun in the rear of a boat to help work on a blind. A dog that was with the two men was also in the boat. The gun discharged and the dog was seen jumping from the boat. Pellets from the shot hit Landry in the arm.

Landry was transported from the accident site to Southside Regional Medical Center and then to VCU Medical Center where he underwent surgery as a result of the incident. Landry said that he was recovering from the incident earlier this week, but would remain in the hospital for a few more days.

The well known law enforcement officer retired from the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office recently as a Lieutenant and has since been working part-time at town departments. He has been helping the Victoria Police Department as a Senior Investigator.
