lazy daisy2KEYSVILLE – The grand opening of Lazy Daisy’s new location at 244 King Street in Keysville on Friday, August 12, 2016, was anything but lazy. The celebration, set to begin at 10 a.m., drew a large crowd even before the allotted time, with visitors enjoying refreshments and taking in all the beauty of the newly opened location of the flower and gift shop. In total, the grand opening was well received, with approximately 75-100 people visiting throughout the day.

Owner Shelly Oakes-Wike could not only be seen greeting the many faces, some familiar, some new, as they congratulated her on the opening of her new location, but also making her way to the design room to work on orders that were coming in. Oakes-Wike, who first opened for business on February 1, 2011 at her former location at 147 King Street said “I am overwhelmed by the community support that has been shown to me.” “The community has been so supportive not only of the new location, but from day one.”

Shelly’s parents, Danny and Gloria Oakes, who could be seen on Friday greeting guests, have been fundamental in helping with and showing support of Lazy Daisy. “In addition to my parents, there are so many people, some in the forefront and some behind the scenes that have shown their support and helped me along the way,” said Shelly. “I could not begin to list each person individually, but I am so thankful for each and every one of them.”

During the grand opening, Lazy Daisy showed its community support in return, by displaying a Lego-inspired afghan that is being raffled off by the APEX Day Support Services, LLC. All donations are going toward the opening of the Apex Community Fitness Center scheduled for September. Raffle tickets are still available for purchase at the Lazy Daisy.

The 244 King Street location, which once housed Southside School of Dance, also received its ribbon cutting on Friday, making it officially known as “Lazy Daisy”.
