Good Enough For Us, But Not for Them

The lightning there is peculiar; it is so convincing, that when it strikes a thing it doesn’t leave enough of that thing behind for you to tell whether–Well, you’d think it was something valuable, and a Congressman had been there.

– Mark Twain’s Speeches, “The Weather”

Many of our ancestors left their homelands to come to America to escape rulers who believed they deserved more than the average citizens and who believed the citizens’ sole purpose was to provide for them and to provide them pleasure.

It is an historical fact that when the leaders and rulers believe they are superior to the citizens that country will fail.

2000 years ago the Roman Senate discovered that they could keep the citizens pacified with “bread and circuses.”  The citizens lived in poverty while the rich lived in splendor and ate things like hummingbird tongues.

In America today our leaders live far beyond the scope of the average citizen. We are kept satisfied with various entertainments and circuses: television, movies, sports, and cell phones. They control our lives and hold us in utter contempt.

According to the Wall Street Journal, last week our Congress and our president who, I will repeat, hold us in utter contempt, are attempting to revise Obamacare to exempt members of Congress and their staffs from the very healthcare bill Congress passed.

They are concerned that highly paid congressional aides and themselves earn too much to qualify for the subsidy lower paid peons will have available. They claim there will be “brain drain” as highly paid Congressional staffers leave their jobs. Give me a break. If they could make more in private industry they would have already left.

Meanwhile, as we learn more and more about the bill we find more and more objectionable issues. Remember Nancy Pelosi saying, “You have to pass it to find out what’s in it.” Now that Congress has found out what’s in it and that it will adversely affect THEM they are attempting to tweak THEIR problem out of the bill.

Remember the President saying, “If you like your health care you can keep it?”

Well, now that he has read the bill it turns out IF you have great health care coverage you can keep it BUT they are going to tax you for having better coverage than Obamacare is going to provide to the rest of the peons. That is unless you are THEM and they believe THEY deserve better  coverage than you and I.

In spite of all of the rhetoric about pre-existing conditions being covered, that too is being adjusted. At this point smokers can expect to pay twice the rate of non-smokers. You may be thinking, “That’s fair, they choose to smoke.” My question is what happens when they decide to add YOUR bad habit to the double premium list?

The same mentality is at work here with New York’s “Stop and Frisk” policy that was just invalidated by a judge. THEY think it is fine to “stop and frisk” you or me but THEY would object more strongly than we if THEY were subjected to “stop and frisk.”

OUR rights mean nothing to them as long as THEIR rights and wants are protected.

Remember, THEY are our leaders. THEY deserve the best. OUR job is to provide it for them.

On the other hand we could just replace them with representatives who don’t think they are better than us.
