GertieOn May 19, 2018, God gently whispered into the ears of our dear mother, Gertrude Gertie Harrison Gordon Cooper, to come home.  She answered his call, took his hand and transitioned to her eternal home.  She departed her earthly home to her heavenly at her residence in Kenbridge, Virginia.

Gertrude (Trudy) was born in Brunswick County on August 12, 1934 to the late Herbert and NeGoldia Harrison.   She received her early education in the Brunswick County School System.  Trudy accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age and was baptized at White Rock AME Zion Church where she served for many years in the Ushers Ministry, Deaconess Ministry and as a dedicated choir member.  On October 20, 1951 she married the late John Albert Gordon.  To that union five children were born. On December 23, 1995 she married Willie Cooper and they resided in Kenbridge, Virginia.  Trudy was employed by the Lunenburg County Public School System as a school bus driver from 1965-2014.

Trudy was known as a very compassionate, nurturing and dutiful woman.   She is known by many names: Momma, Gma, Mom, Mommy, Ms. Trudy, Mrs. Gordon and over the recent years as Mrs. Cooper.  She loved her family with all her heart.  Anyone who came in contact with her became a part of our family.  Mom loved to cook and have family and friends around her.  She loved animals and especially her dog Lola.  No one was a stranger to her.  Trudy (Mom) ensured that we knew the power of prayer and that our strength comes from the Lord.  As her health declined, she had the best of care by family, friends, and two very special people, Dorothy Bagley and Marilyn Walker, and Hospice of Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Albert Gordon; two sisters, Virginia Harrison and Nancy Trotter, and one brother, Bob Sam Harrison.

Trudy leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Willie Cooper; five children, Gloria Sharp (David) of Sutherland, Virginia, John Gordon of Kenbridge, Virginia, Sandra (Kay) Gordon of Kenbridge, Wanda Morrison (Ray) of Kenbridge and Ricky Gordon (Sheri) of North Chesterfield, Virginia; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, five sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.  She also leaves many special friends who loved her dearly.
