Fuqua Students Attend Eco April Activity

Recently, Fuqua School grade 4 and 5 students participated in one of Longwood University’s activities for Eco April.  Longwood invited Virginia State Parks Rangers and Richard Louv, bestselling author, to share their knowledge and love of the outdoors with the students.  Louv encouraged the students to spend time outdoors every day.  He shared the importance of enjoying the nature around us and how that can boost creativity, promote health and wellness, and strengthen families.    Virginia State Parks Rangers led a hands-on demonstration sharing a variety of skulls and pelts while teaching the characteristics of the animals that live in our area.  The Rangers pointed out how fortunate our area is to have nine state parks: Bear Creek Lake, High Bridge Trail, Holliday Lake, James River, Pocahontas, Powhatan, Sailor’s Creek Battlefield, Smith Mountain Lake, and Twin Lakes.  The highlight of the day was the début of Virginia State Parks’ new mascot, Ranger Parker Redfox —— the students were thrilled to be the first to meet him and went home with a backpack full of information from Virginia State Parks.  Pictured at right are some of the Fuqua School students with Virginia State Parks’ new mascot, Ranger Parker Redfox, at his first public event.
