fuquaROANOKE – The Fuqua School Falcons varsity football team traveled to Roanoke Catholic School, in the VISAA State Semi-finals and looked to get revenge on their opponent from an earlier defeat this year. The Falcons put up some offense against the Celtics, but couldn’t matched them in a high scoring 52-30 loss that ended the season for Fuqua.

The two teams met earlier in the season and Roanoke Catholic came away with a  54-11 victory and they almost duplicated that offensive output again in the rematch.

The Falcons got an early boost from Devin Allen who returned from an ankle injury, but he was injured again in this game after posting some impressive early numbers of ten completions for 90 yards and an early Fuqua touchdown.

Billy French led the team on the ground with 100 yards on 18 carries. Ed Newman was the top receiver on the night as he collected 6 catches for 57 yards and touchdown.

Fuqua ends the year  with a 6-4 overall record and comes up just one game shy of a return to the State Championship this year. (Photo by Julie Adams)
