Staff Report

mugshot-mccargo, johnDrakes Branch native and former NFL player John Jerome McCargo was arrested last weekend in Charlotte County.

According to court records, McCargo was charged with possession of a gun while in possession of a schedule 1 or schedule 2 drug, a class 6 felony. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on October 8, 2017. Trooper W.T. Dean was the arresting officer.

On December 28, 2016 McCargo was charged in California with inflicting corporal injury on a spouse, former spouse and/or cohabitant. He was also cited for dissuading a witness from reporting a crime.

McCargo is wanted by the Placer County Superior Court of California. A nation-wide warrant was issued for his arrest on September 18, 2017 after he failed to appear at his hearing, which was a violation of his probation, and the judge issued a nationwide felony bench warrant with a $150,000 bond. McCargo had been sentenced to three years probation after pleading nolo contendere (accepting the conviction as if a guilty plea had been entered but not admitting guilt to the charges) to a felony charge of False Imprisonment. The violation of parole appears to have been from another case in Placer County in which McCargo was charged with the possession of a controlled substance on August 4, 2017.

McCargo is currently being held in the Charlotte County jail.
