Lunenburg County Public Schools Superintendent Charles Berkley stated, “Reporters and local media play an important role in public education. School division leaders rely on responsible reporting by local media representatives so that our community members receive timely information about division initiatives and programs.”

He continued, “It is our pleasure to announce that one of our former students of Lunenburg County Public Schools has been nominated and awarded to the Media Honor Roll.”

The VSBA creates the Media Honor Roll to recognize fair and balanced reporting on school division and education related topics. The award takes into account the approach to sharing information with the community whether is is the successes achieved by the schools, teachers and students or the challenges facing schools.

VSBA Executive Director Gina G. Patterson stated, “Your work has aided in focusing on our goal of providing the best public schools we can for the children who attend them.”

She continued, “On behalf of the Virginia School Boards Association, we thank you and The Southside Messenger for the role you play in building better opportunities for the children in the Commonwealth’s public school system.”

Nowlin is a former graduate of Central High School in 1992. He stated, “I want to thank the Lunenburg County School Board, Superintendent Charles Berkley and the VSBA for this recognition. While the award was presented to me and The Southside Messenger it is really a product of the willingness by school officials to share overall  information to the public and to promote the many accomplishments by students, faculty and administrators.”
