Forging Parents’ Checks Results in Jail Term

Monica Renee Jennings, a 32 year old Kenbridge woman of 1446 Blackstone Rd., was convicted recently in Lunenburg Circuit Court of four felony counts of Forgery of her parents’ checks and sentenced to one year in jail.

According to Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert Clement, the charges arose when the bank notified the state police that from November to December, 2013 someone had forged and cashed eleven checks totaling $5,930.00 at other banks and businesses.

When interviewed by state police, Jennings admitted to obtaining her parents’ account number and ordering new checks with her parents’ names, but changing the address to her own residence in Meherrin.  Jennings was also charged in Prince Edward Co. with additional offenses, but has not yet been tried.

Jennings’ prior convictions include Prince Edward Co. convictions of eight felony convictions for forgery in 2010.

The defendant’s sentence was within the recommendation of the sentencing guidelines, according to Clement.

In addition, the defendant has an additional seven years and suspended subject to conditions of good behavior for eight years, supervised probation for one year, warrantless searches for five years, and payment of restitution.
