Lunenburg and surrounding counties saw the first real snow this past Sunday morning as the ground was covered for a few hours.
Snow fell heavily at times from around 5 a.m. until 12 p.m., but it quickly went away as temperatures rose, and by mid-afternoon the only evidence of the morning precipitation was mostly on cars.
However, school children may get their first snow day this Friday as forecasts call for early morning winter precipitation on that day. The snow is supposed to last throughout the day according to Accuweather, with a mixture of rain and snow late Friday. Saturday forecasts call for additional snow during the day and accumulation totals have been all over the place with some models showing just a few inches of snow and others calling for 12 plus inches between Friday and Saturday.
