Fire Prevention Muster in Farmville

Written by on October 3, 2013 at 1:29 pm

Members of the seven fire companies in Prince Edward County will gather in the parking lot of the Southgate Shopping Center (that formerly housed Roses and Kroger) on Main Street in Farmville on October 6 starting at 1 p.m.

The Fire Prevention Muster is in observance of Fire Prevention Week that starts Sunday, October 6. This year’s theme is “Prevent Kitchen Fires.” During this year’s fire safety campaign, fire departments will be spreading the word about the dangers of kitchen fires – most of which result from unattended cooking – and teaching local residents how to prevent kitchen fires from starting in the first place.

According to the latest National Fire Protection Association research, cooking is the leading cause of home fires. Two of every five home fires begin in the kitchen—more than any other place in the home. Cooking fires are also the leading cause of home fire-related injuries.

Come join the firefighters for a family friendly afternoon of activities and fun from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
