Written by on July 3, 2015 at 12:55 pm

longwood fireThe black plume of smoke rising above the tree line over the Longwood Golf Course was plain to see by residents moving about Farmville around the midday hour on Sunday, June 26. A fire at Longwood Golf Course in Farmville is currently under investigation by the Virginia State Police Fire Investigation Unit. According to Farmville Fire Department Chief Goss, preliminary findings point to an overcharged and overheated golf cart battery as being responsible for starting a fire that burned down a shed that was used to house the course’s golf carts. He went on to say that the shed and four or five golf carts housed inside were lost in the fire that was quickly brought under control by FVFD on Sunday. Sources report that a fire just over two years ago did similar damage to a shed and the carts it housed at the golf course. A Longwood golf course employee commented that the course remains open to the public and in spite of the fire, there are plenty of carts available to players. Story by By Noel Oliver
