Alvin Lee Taylor, a 43-year-old Buckingham man, has already spent about 12 years of his life incarcerated because of repeated driving violations, including felonies of Driving as a Habitual Offender and Driving Under the Influence, but still would  not stop driving during his most recent period of probation, and has earned another three years and nine months to serve.

According to Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert Clement, statistical studies have shown that repeat offenders such as Taylor are much more likely to be involved in tragic accidents, so the legislature has created harsher penalties for such offenders.

Taylor was originally convicted in Lunenburg for a felony of Driving as a Habitual Offender and Driving Under the Influence second offense in 2007 and sentenced to three years.  He was returned to court in 2012 on a violation of the suspended portion of his sentence, and received six months to serve. He was brought back once again to Lunenburg last week as a result of new convictions in Prince Edward County, and was sentenced to another nine months in prison.  This was on top of nine months in Buckingham County, and two years and three months in Prince Edward County.

Taylor will continue to be on supervised probation and subject to the outstanding conditions of his remaining suspended sentence upon his release.
