FARMVILLE – Earlier this year St. John’s Lutheran Church in Farmville took on a huge project.

The church decided to provide Thanksgiving Day meals to those in need in the community.

After many months of seeking donations and volunteers the church was able to provide close to 500 meals to those in need. Donations came from Thrivent Financial, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Applebee’s, Kroger, Food Lion, and others.

By 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day all meals were ready and volunteers were out delivering.

According to event organizers, other church groups, basketball teams from Fuqua, Boy Scouts, and many individuals from the community came to help pack up and deliver the meals. “We ended up with 465 meals designated for individuals but we packed over 500 meals! We also delivered meals to the emergency dispatchers and police officers on duty as well as some folks who were just surprised to get a Thanksgiving dinner,” organizers stated.
