Feeding Deer a Bad Idea

Written by on July 3, 2014 at 3:33 pm

logo lettersThe Va. Dept. of Fish and Game has gone to great lengths over the years to make a case as to why feeding deer is a bad idea from Sept. to Jan. (only) in most counties. I too have gone to great lengths over the years pointing out the contradictions and folly behind these laws. I would now like to add one more absurdity to the list. Since it’s legal (at present) to feed deer and place mineral blocks to aid and increase antler growth, I recently decided to buy and set out one of these blocks. Upon going to the store, I was informed there isn‚Äôt much of a selection in mineral blocks at this time of year. I was advised to come back in the fall of the year when selections and inventory is at its highest. By the way, it’s in the fall of the year when the D.G.I.F. makes it illegal to set out any type feeds or mineral blocks for deer! So let’s see, … I can set out mineral blocks for deer when they can’t be bought and I must stop (by law) setting out mineral blocks when they can be bought. What’s wrong with this picture ? It appears (at first blush) the deer hunting industry and the D.G.I.F. are not on the same page. I wonder who has it wrong?

Dear Sir,

I have six Native American friends, I know their wives and children and none of them or their friends want Washington’s premier football team’s name changed. Two of them have said that if they change the name they would go on the war path (my friends, not the Redskin team).  This plot appears to be instigated by “BLUE” dog Liberals or Jerry Jones the owner of the “BLUE” Star Dallas Cowboys although I think I am giving Jerry too much credit. Taking away trademark credits is an attempt at doing monetary harm to the franchise. If that is done, then what must be done with Red Man chewing tobacco or the name Cracker Jack? God forbid we infer something on Jack or the name BLACK HAWK when we are really W.A.S.P.S.?

Going national with this thing is an attempt to turn the focus away from our real problems such as unaffordable health care, $20 billion in loans to the Ukraine, replacing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of missiles that Iraq either lost, had stolen or sold – the list goes on ad nauseum. Let’s also not forget our local Government squandering hundreds of thousands of dollars in feasibility and E.P.A. studies for a “Coat House” that we neither want nor need.

We have stolen Native American land, force-marched them until they dropped dead and now 200 years later, the “BLUE” bloods want to give them their name back.  I think Mrs. Clinton should bake some cookies for them and some hash brownies for Mr. Clinton – I wonder if he will swallow? Our constipated Congress is due for a high irrigation in November and when it’s over, the remaining ones will need some “BLUE Ointment” to heal with.

REDily yours,
