Fatal Crash in Charlotte: Lynchburg man killed, three others seriously injured

Virginia State Police Trooper J.V. Bavely responded to a fatal crash involving three motorcycles in Charlotte County. The crash occurred on Oct. 5, 2013, at 11:17 a.m. on Route 47, less than a mile north of Route 649.

A 2003 Harley-Davidson Fatboy motorcycle was southbound on Route 47 when a deer collided with the motorcycle and knocked the operator off the bike. A 2010 Harley-Davidson Road King and a 2004 Harley-Davidson Wide Glide where traveling with the Fatboy and swerved to avoid the motorcyclist causing each motorcycle to ran off the right side of the road.

The operator of the 2003 Fatboy was Stephan S. Eberhardt, 51, of Lynchburg, Va. Eberhardt died at the scene.

The operator of the Road King, Joseph K. Henly II, 54, of Gretna, Va., was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. His passenger, Dora Henley, 52, was also transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The operator of the Wide Glide, Harvey G. Morgan Jr., 47, of Concord, Va., was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

All four individuals were wearing helmets.
