Fatal Car Crash in Abilene

Darlington Heights Fire and Rescue and EMS responded to a call to a single vehicle accident on Friday, June 19 in the Abilene area of Prince Edward County. The crash occurred on Route 671 less than a mile north of Route 667. A 1997 Chevrolet Lumina was traveling west on Route 671, when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree. The driver, Jane B. Benbow, 78, of Charlotte Court House, Va., died at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Virginia State Police Trooper A.S. Trombley is investigating.
