Tuesday’s National Night Out events in Farmville were again successful with hundreds turning out for cookouts and gatherings all over the Town of Farmville to mingle with police officers from the Farmville Police Department, Longwood University and the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office.
At Parkview Gardens, one of the larger events of the evening, McGruff the Crime Dog posed for pictures with countless little ones while Farmville Police Chief Doug Mooney, Town Manager Gerry Spates and a group posed with a Batman-themed Dodge Magnum.
National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” was introduced in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch and began an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
