Staff Report

FARMVILLE, VA – A Farmville man is now in police custody after barricading himself inside his residence Monday, Oct. 17, 2016. The incident began Monday afternoon at approximately 2:15 p.m. when Farmville Police went to the residence of Kenneth P. Tomkinson, 52, to serve him with a felony warrant for abduction and a misdemeanor warrant for domestic assault. When officers knocked on the door at his residence in the 500 block of Milnwood Road, Tomkinson refused to open the door or cooperate with the officers. To assist police with apprehending Tomkinson, Farmville Police requested the assistance of the Virginia State Police. At 8:30 p.m., state police initiated efforts to make contact with Tomkinson and talk him into surrendering peacefully. Tomkinson continued to refuse to correspond with law enforcement or to comply with commands to safely exit the residence. At 9:50 p.m., state police breached the front door of the residence. Moments later, Tomkinson walked out of the residence and surrendered without further incident. Farmville Police then took him into custody on the two original arrest warrants and transported him to the Piedmont Regional Jail with no bond.

The original arrest warrants stem from a domestic incident that occurred at the same residence earlier Monday, Oct. 17, 2016.
