Firefighters from Farmville, Prospect and Hampden-Sydney volunteer fire departments responded to a house fire around 3 a.m. Sunday morning at 1577 Tuggle Road in Farmville. According to Farmville Fire Chief Andrew Goss, the home was fully engulfed when the fire department arrived. “We could see the fire when we pulled out off the station,” said Goss. According to Goss, the fire is being investigated as suspicious. “The home was abandoned,” he said. “Homes just don’t catch on fire at 3:00 in the morning when they are abandoned.”
No injuries were reported and it took firefighters close to an hour to get the blaze under control. Story by Crystal Vandegrift
