Farmville Attorney Appointed to the Bench

Donald C. Blessing is a well-known attorney in Southside, Virginia, and operates a successful law practice located in the town of Farmville. All of that is about to change. On Thursday, October 16, Donald Blessing was appointed to serve on the bench of the 10th Circuit Court. The 10th Circuit covers the counties of Appomattox, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, and Prince Edward.

A review of the results of a 2013 study of the judicial caseloads in Virginia caused the General Assembly to realize the need for an additional judicial seat in the 10th Circuit. Donald Blessing was the only candidate interviewed for the position. By vote during a special session of the Virginia General Assembly at the end of this past week, the process was finalized and his appointment made official.

According to the bio posted on his law firm’s official website, Indiana native Donald Blessing was raised here in Southside, Virginia. He is an alumnus of the University of Richmond, and then attended and graduated from T.C. Williams School of Law. His admission to the Virginia State Bar was in 1980 and shortly thereafter, he began his own law practice in Farmville in 1983. In addition to running a successful law practice for some 34 years, Donald Blessing has always been active in the community. He has been a member of the Prince Edward Lions Club. During 1988-89 he served as president of the Farmville Chamber of Commerce. Currently, in keeping with his active life of community involvement, he serves as legal counsel for the Town of Farmville. His replacement for this position has not been named yet.
