PRINCE EDWARD – Prince Edward County will now have elected school board members. Voters took to the polls on Tuesday to vote 6,366 to 1,981 to pass the “Shall the method of selecting the school board be changed from appointment by the governing body to direct election by the voters?” referendum. Seventy-six percent of voters voted “yes” to the 24 percent who voted “no.”
Currently, school board members in Prince Edward County are appointed by the Board of Supervisors.
Prince Edward is one of a few localities in the Commonwealth that still appointed its school board members.
