Elected officials love the drama

Written by on September 5, 2013 at 12:23 pm

Dear Editor:

I had to turn off the news today, I couldn’t stand any more of the play-acting of our elected officials. It’s a given that they will vote for a military action against Syria, and all the talk and posturing is nothing more than drama to entertain the masses.

lteI couldn’t take any more of the miss-the-point discussions from the media talking heads either. How, exactly, is it any worse to kill people with gas (not fully proven it was used, by the way) than it is to kill them with guns and bombs? I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard one interview that hinted we would suffer national embarrassment if we didn’t back up the administration’s “line.”  Was he really suggesting we kill a slew of people to avoid embarrassment!!??

The real reason we are going to go to war with Syria is because their neighboring countries, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey, etc., are getting nervous about Syria’s escalating civil war.  They all have military power, but they don’t dare use it.  There are so many factions in each of those countries that any action against Syria would result in their own civil wars.

Let them handle it themselves.  As long as they can depend on the U.S.to suffer the casualties and cost of war, they have no motivation to work toward peace.

 Walmart Service a disappointment

To the Editor:

Walmart Service Center = NO SERVICE

I discovered a major flaw in one of my tires tonight so I called Walmart Service Center to arrange a replacement. It was 7 p.m. and my wife was told on the phone that they closed at 8 p.m. but as long as we got there before 8 they would mount the tires. I took the tires off the car and headed to Farmville. I live in Meherrin so I am 20 miles away. I arrived at the service center at 7:45 only to be told by the same fellow my wife talked to that we were too late and that he had told her we needed to be there by 7:30. They had everything locked up, all service bays and all doors. Now who do you think I am going to believe. Some kid that I don’t know or the woman I’ve been married to for 30 years. I am not a fool! I too listen to my management. So I proceeded to the front of the store to speak to a manager. Needless to say I am pretty upset at this point. The manager on duty went to check if anyone was back there to do the job but of course by then they had punched out and left. He was very apologetic and offered me a twenty dollar gift card. The only problem is the kid in the service center LIED to my face about what he told my wife, There are two things that I WILL NOT tolerate, a liar or a thief. And I will not take being lied to. It’s going to be kind of hard to drive that twenty dollar gift card to work tomorrow. I have worked in retail for the last 40 years so I surely could teach them a thing or two about customer service. This letter does not accurately portray how extremely pissed off I am. DO NOT say you are open till 8 if you are not going to help people after 7:30. And especially DO NOT LIE TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I am sure that no one at Walmart will think twice about what happened tonight but I have a VERY good memory when I have been lied to!!!!!!!!!!

GOOD BYE WALMART!!!!

Chase City Art Club thanks community

Editor:

This Summer, The Chase City Art Club had the great honor and pleasure of presenting its independent Tourism Campaign for The Town of Chase City and its neighboring sister towns located in Mecklenburg County. The event was held in July, at the Estes Center during the Chase City Chamber of Commerce Luncheon.  Promoting our area through art was the focus of our presentation. To that end, The Chase City Art Club members unveiled a wonderful sculpture and our advertising brand the “Hang your hat and stay a while…in Chase City” campaign.  On behalf of The Chase City Art Club, I would like to thank several people who made this all possible. Mrs. Lisa Gillispie was kind enough to arrange the luncheon and assist in inviting prominent members of our community to attend the event as guest of The Chase City Art Club; Mr. Braxton Rutledge for his assistance with the Art Club setup, logistics and presentation; Mr. Eddie Bratton for his continued and unwavering support of the Art Club, plus his wonderful and poignant invocation; The Estes Center for providing the event venue, especially Dr. Earl More and the Estes Board members, who had the vision to recognize the importance of the sculpture and decided to offer a permanent location for same. We are proud to announce that Coming Soon!! to Chase City, with the assistance of the Town Shop and Mr. Rickie Reese, the sculpture will be permanently installed on Main Street in front of the Estes Center Plaza. The idea for our Tourism Campaign was a group effort. The sculpture was commissioned by the Art Club and created by Fred Cartwright, a master metal smith artisan and Art Club member. Fred Cartwright took a dream and made it into a reality. My gift to the Town of Chase City is but a small token of my appreciation for all the blessings that this town and area have offered not only my family but The Chase City Art Club and its Federation of Artists Members. Thank you all so much.

Elsa Cristina Gailor, president of The Chase City Art Club.
