Driver Hits Tree

At approximately 10:48 a.m., Virginia State Police responded to the scene of a single-vehicle crash located in the 3100 block of George Washington Hwy. in the vicinity of Charlotte Court House.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that Jennifer Smith, 36, of Brookneal was traveling in a PT Cruiser on George Washington Hwy. when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.  Charlotte Court House Fire Department and the Charlotte County Rescue Squad were also called to the scene.  Smith was checked out and transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for injuries sustained in the accident.

While the vehicle endured a considerable amount of damage on the driver’s side, the road was re-opened by 11:42 a.m. Smith was charged with failure to maintain control, which states under Code of VA § 46.2-853 that “a person shall be guilty of reckless driving who drives a vehicle which is not under proper control or which has inadequate or improperly adjusted brakes on any highway in the Commonwealth.”

Trooper J.V. Bavely was the investigating officer in this incident.
