Driver Dies in Crash

Virginia State Police Trooper A.C.S. Goss is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash in Prince Edward County. The crash occurred April 24, 2015, at 5:09 p.m., at the intersection of Route 15 and Route 671.

A 2007 GMC Yukon was northbound on Route 15 when it stopped to make a left turn onto Route 671. A 2014 GMC Denali traveling behind failed to stop in time and rear-ended the Yukon.

 The driver of the Denali, Marion J. Colgate, 89, of Chase City, Va., was transported to UVA Hospital in Charlottesville, where he later died. Colgate was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Yukon, Janie G. Eagle, 61, of Keysville, Va., was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries. She was wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Alcohol was not a factor.
