Dorothy Whirley Reed Obituary

On the morning of June 30, 2016, at Lynchburg General Hospital, God sent his Angels to bring his daughter, Dorothy Whirley Reed home.  Surrounded by her family, Dorothy quietly said goodbye and answered God’s call.  She was born in Keysville, Va. on July 27, 1945, to the late Edward and Rosa Whirley.  She joined the Friendship Baptist Church at an early age and later moved her membership to Emmanuel Bible Church.  When Dorothy met Dale Albert Reed, Jr. she knew, she had found the man of her dreams and happily became his wife on January 20, 1960.  To this union six children were born. Dorothy loved angels and collected them wherever she went.  She also liked to read and was always after her children to help her plant flowers in her flower bed or flower pots.  She loved the beach and always looked forward to her yearly beach trips.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 56 years, Dale A. Reed, Jr.; five loyal and devoted daughters, Theresa (Frank) Adkins, Joyce (Jimmy) Crews, Linda (Donald Sr.) Ferguson, Lynn (Rodney) Duffer, and Melissa (Matthew) Tharpe; a loving and caring son, Dale (Anita) Reed, III; ten grandchildren that she absolutely adored, Frank Adkins, Brandon Adkins, Tina Bennington, Amy Parsons, Tiffany Adkins, Travis Ferguson, Heather Tharpe, Shannon Tharpe, Allison Tharpe and Gislania Moore; seven great-grandchildren, Dillion Nowlin, Alyssa Parsons, Devin Adkins, Kayden Sands, Brylee Ferguson, Annabella Newcomb and Aubree Moore; two brothers, Marvin (Josephine) Whirley, James “Bee” (Frieda) Whirley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and numerous friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 3, 2016, at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, Va., with interment in Mt. Nebo Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family received friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home on Saturday, July 2, 2016, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Charlotte County Rescue Squad or a charity of your choice. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville is serving the family.
