Dorothy Louise Smith

Dorothy Louise Smith, “Dot”, 92, of Farmville, VA, died at her home on December 3, 2013.

She was born to the late Will Linder Vice and Willie Ida Lee Vice on November 7,1921, in Wellington, Alabama. She married the late Lynwood Gordon Smith, “Linnie”, on September 8,1945 and they made their lifelong home in Farmville, Virginia.

Dot met Linnie at Fort McClellan, Alabama, where he was stationed during World War II as an x-ray technician and she was an employee on the army base.

She was a devoted wife and mother and a charter member of the Heritage Baptist Church which she attended regularly when her health was good. Her passion was gardening and she spent many happy, active hours in her vegetable and flower gardens. She also enjoyed piecing quilts, crocheting, cross-stitching, and preparing delicious meals for her family. She and Linnie were inseparable and they enjoyed traveling in the camper during their later years. They were married for 58 years.

Dot is survived by three children and their spouses: Vicky Lynn Burnette and husband, Mac, of North Myrtle Beach, SC; Gordon Smith and wife, Debbie, of Farmville; Stanley Smith and wife, Kathy, of Farmville. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and her devoted caregiver, Agnes Loveday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse or to a charity of your choice.

A Family and Visitation night will be held at Puckett’s Funeral Home on Milnwood Road in Farmville, VA, on Thursday evening, Dec 5 from 6 to 8 PM. The Funeral Service will also be held at Puckett’s Funeral home on Friday, Dec. 6 at 2 PM with interment following at Westview Cemetery in Farmville.
