Did You Vote?

Written by on November 7, 2013 at 2:43 pm

This past Tuesday was an Election Day in our state of Virginia. Did you do your civic duty and go to the polls to vote or had you had enough of phone calls, TV ads, radio commercials and political mail?

logo-community-newsThis reporter thought that enough was enough until she received a political conference call last Saturday night and stayed tuned in to the town discussion that was being held. I learned more about one particular candidate during those thirty minutes than I did during this whole duration of name-calling and political put-downs we’ve had to endure during the past few months.

By the time my article appears, your candidates will have won or lost the race. Either way, did you vote? If you didn’t, don’t muster up the courage now to explain why your candidates lost.

Veterans’ Day, November 11, is next Monday. You can bet that our veterans took the time to vote! If anyone has ever served his/her country, they know how important it is to cast a vote. We need to stop now and thank any veteran for their service to our country.

Not long ago, I had lunch in a Blackstone restaurant that was filled with soldiers from Camp Pickett. Our group enjoyed their company and they sincerely appreciated our “Thank You for your Service” comments we had the opportunity to express. Don’t miss an opportunity to thank a soldier serving NOW or to thank a soldier who served during war time so you could be living in this free country.

Consider the minorities. We need to show more sympathy for these people because:

They travel miles in the heat. They risk their lives crossing a border. They don’t get paid enough wages.

They do jobs that others won’t do or are afraid to do. They live in crowded conditions among people who speak a different language.

They rarely see their families and they face adversity all day….every day…..

I’m not talking about illegal immigrants. I’M TALKING ABOUT OUR TROOPS!

Doesn’t it seem strange that so many are willing to lavish all kinds of social benefits on illegals but don’t support our troops?

Wouldn’t it be great if we took the $360,000,000,000 (that’s billion) we spend on illegals every year and spend it on our troops?

A veteran is someone who at one point in their life wrote a blank check made payable to the United States of America for any amount, up to and including their life.

REMEMBER OUR SOLDIERS. BLESS THEM ALL!

Just thinking about this article is very stressful. To cut down on your stress, listed are a few stress reducers that our Congress could use, too:

Pray

Go to bed on time.

Laugh.

Make friends with Godly people.

Delegate tasks to others who are capable.

Simplify your life.

Talk less and listen more.

Take ONE day at a time.

Get enough exercise. It stimulates the mind and the body!

K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut) This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.

Every night before you go to bed, think of one thing you’re grateful for that you’ve never been grateful for before.
