BUCKINGHAM – An Appomattox County resident died in a Thursday (March 24) accident involving a collision with a deer.
James G. Pugh, 54, of Appomattox, Virginia, was traveling on Route 24 in Buckingham County around 5:30 a.m. when a deer was hit on the opposite side of the road and thrown into the path of Pugh.
Another vehicle was traveling west on Route 24 when the animal ran out in front of them and was hit. It knocked the deer over into the lane where Pugh was driving his 1993 Toyota pickup and struck the deer also.
The pickup then ran off the road and crashed into a tree. Pugh died at the scene of the accident from injuries resulting from the crash. Virginia State Police Trooper R.M. Chambliss investigated the accident. Pugh was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck.
