DAR Good Citizens Recognized

DAR - 2018 Good Citizens EssaysVICTORIA – At the March meeting of the William Taylor Chapter, NSDAR in the Victoria home of Diana Clement, students who were named as their school’s “Good Citizens” were honored at a tea party.  Reading their essays to the group were Brittany Tomlinson of Lunenburg and Hannah Lee Bailey of Mecklenburg.  Sarah Poarch of Brunswick Academy was unable to attend.  These seniors in area high schools are from the portions of Southside Virginia represented by the majority of chapter members.

The DAR Good Citizens Award, which is presented annually by local chapters, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their schools because they demonstrate such qualities to an outstanding degree.

Brittany Tomlinson, the recipient from Central High School of Lunenburg, is the daughter of Chris and Holly Tomlinson. She is president of the school’s National Honor Society and committee chair at Virginia’s Model General Assembly. She has been a member of the school’s Homecoming Court and is a participant in many sports including volleyball, software, and cheerleading.

Hannah Lee Bailey, a senior at Park View High School in South Hill, is the daughter of Paul and Wanda Bailey. Hannah is a member of the BETA club and has performed almost 50 hours of community service over the last three years. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She has also played in the marching and concert bands for four years.

Sarah Poarch, a senior at Brunswick Academy, is the daughter of Brian and Mary Beth Poarch of Emporia. Sarah is a member of various organizations including the Latin Club. She is Student Council Treasurer and captain of the varsity volleyball and basketball teams.

The William Taylor Chapter extends congratulations to these young women who are this year’s honorees.
