Cyclist struck on Five Forks Rd.

A cyclist was injured on Sunday, August 25 when he was struck by a vehicle on Five Forks Rd.

According to the Virginia State Police, Cortez Vaughan of Prospect was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry northbound on 5 Forks Rd. Approximately half a mile north of Route 650, Vaughan came upon a cyclist also traveling northbound.

Vaughan attempted to pass the cyclist, and struck the cyclist from behind. The cyclist was transported to Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville nonlife threatening injuries.

Vaughan was charged with improper passing. The accident happened around 9am this morning.
