Currin Claims Third Spelling Bee Title

VICTORIA – Lunenburg Middle School 6th grader Ben Currin continued his dominance of the Lunenburg County Public Schools Spelling Bee contest. Currin is now a three-time winner and finished runner up one other time during his reign as the top speller.

P--Spelling BeeP--VES SpellersThe 2016 Division Spelling Bee was held on January 15, 2016 at Central High School.  Spelling Bee participants were Pedro Manuel, 5th Grader from Kenbridge Elementary School; Jaden Williams, 3rd Grader from Victoria Elementary School; and Ben Currin, 6th Grader from Lunenburg Middle School.

Ms. Agnes Whittle was the pronouncer for the event.  After several rounds of spelling, Ben Currin was determined the winner with the winning word being “serpentine.”  Jaden Williams was runner-up and Pedro Manuel came in 3rd.

Ben Currin will go on to participate in the Richmond Times Dispatch Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Library of Virginia.  Jaden Williams will represent Lunenburg if Ben Currin cannot be present that day for any reason.  The winner of the Richmond Times Dispatch Spelling Bee will participate in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.  This event is broadcast on ESPN 3.
