LUNENBURG – The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors have approved the fiscal year 2020-21 budget for the county. Following a public hearing that was held in conjunction with the Board of Supervisors regular monthly meeting on June 11 the Board of Supervisors met again on Thursday, June 18 and adopted the budget.

County Administrator Tracy Gee noted that the budget was approved with the addition of previously approved radio assessment study funds from the 911 fund of $26,407 for FY21.  They also added additional CARES Act funding being sent to Lunenburg County for the Presidential Election via the Registrar, for additional costs associated to conducting the election due to the novel coronavirus. The total amount of these additional funds is $51,281.

Gee also noted that the CARES Act funds will be accounted for in a separate county fund and will require committee approval before they are spent. Supervisors Wayne Hoover and Alvester Edmonds are the two Board of Supervisors members that are on the CARES Act fund committee.

The total county budget amount for this year is $37,667,207, while the current budget year total was $34,864,525. The 2020 current adopted year budget includes an overall general fund amount of $10,410,172 and the proposed general fund revenue balance for this coming year is $12,011,378. In the revenue areas, there is a slight increase in personal property taxes from $1,900,000 last year to $2,050,000 this year. There are slight increases in areas such as grant numbers and building permits, but the biggest increases in revenue is CARES Act money from the COVID-10 pandemic and landfill host fees. The general fund expenditures increased from $5,070,177 this year to $6,272,678 during the proposed budget for next year.
