Conrad winsLUNENBURG – The Lunenburg County Chamber of Commerce held their awards banquet on Saturday night and announced the winner of the Citizen of the Year award.

This award is given out each year after nominations from members are read and distributed to Chamber members. The group then votes on the winner and they are presented with a plaque during the January event.

The winner of the award for 2017 is Dawn Conrad. She was presented the award by Chamber member and Twigs and Berries owner Marianne Cicala who called Conrad a “friend and great citizen.”

Conrad is a member of several area clubs that include the quilting club and wine club. She helped with the installation of the garden at Kenbridge Elementary School that allows the children to learn and have hands-on lessons dealing with science as well as helping the school look nice.

Cicala stated, “She inspires! She came here only seven years ago and immediately saturated herself in the community.  Not only did she join the herb club, but like everything else she does, she contributes to their meetings, opens her home to the group, and works their booth at functions.”

She continued, “Dawn fills up her car with friends and seniors so they can take a train ride to enjoy fall foliage or explore a historic site or farm event, she’ll brave the snow to help bottle feed a new born sheep or goats when needed as well as promoting farm shops and the many locally made goods.”

Conrad is described as always upbeat, positive and ready to lend a hand, a shoulder or ideas.
