Compassionate Friends to Hold 16th Event This Saturday

Victoria Railroad Park Will Be the Sight of 5K

The Southside Chapter of Compassionate Friends will be holding their 16th Annual 5K walk this Saturday, October 10th. The event this year will be taking place at the Victoria Railroad Park. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the walk starting at 10 am.

The organization was formed nearly two decades ago as several families of Southside Virginia were grief-stricken by the loss of their child or children.

The group was formed as a support for anyone dealing with the heartbreak and grief of losing a child in the area and in October 1999, the first official TCF support meeting was held in Lunenburg.

As part of the annual events that are held each year, which also includes the World Wide TCF Candle Lighting Service, the local chapter holds a 5K Memorial Walk in October each year. This is the only fund raiser for the organization and includes refreshments and a balloon release. The balloons carry the names of each of the children or loved ones that have been taken too soon.
