Join the Charlotte County Master Gardeners at the Charlotte County Extension Service Building on Saturday, April 25 for a grand celebration of gardening and nature. Florafest 2015 will feature a wide variety of vendors, lectures and plant sales for the gardening fanatic in your family!

Some plants to be offered at this year’s event will include roses, mums, astilbe, amsonia, bridal wreath, variegated solomon’s seal, forsythia, hellebores, winter jasmine, creeping jenny, marigolds, sunflowers, shrubs, hanging baskets, poppies and much more! Additionally, two different lectures will be presented inside the Extension building titled Backyard Berries by Dr. Charles Davis and Attracting Quail by Blair Smith.

According to Florafest literature, “Dr. Davis is well known throughout Southside Virginia as a retired physician and an expert gardener and woodworker…he will present his method of raising both blackberries and blueberries.”  Dr. Davis’ lecture will be presented at 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. For those interested in wildlife, Regional Virginia Wildlife Biologist Blair Smith will present an engaging lecture on methods of attracting quail.  “This speaker will also talk briefly about what local gardeners can do to help restore the population of the Monarch butterfly.” Interested parties may attend this lecture from 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.

All proceeds from Florafest will go towards fund grants, scholarships, and projects within Charlotte County.  For more information about this event, contact the Charlotte County Extension Service at 434-542-5884 or call Jean Elliot, President of the Charlotte County Master Gardeners at 434-391-4678.
