Cocaine Purchase from Undercover Officer Earns Jail Time

Whitehead Convicted on One Felony Count of Distribution of Cocaine

Carlos WhiteheadLUNENBURG – A Victoria man had a conviction of nine months in jail handed down to him recently following a previous undercover purchase.

Carlos Antwan Whitehead, a 31-year-old Victoria man of 941 Skelton Rd., was sentenced recently in Lunenburg Circuit Court to nine months in jail as a result of being convicted of one felony count of Distribution of Cocaine.

According to Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert Clement, the local drug task force under the direction of Sgt. Adam Martin of the Lunenburg Sheriff’s Office conducted an undercover purchase of cocaine from Whitehead in Nutbush. The purchase was for $400 in exchange for 4.17 g of crack cocaine.

In addition to his active sentence, Whitehead also received nine years and three months suspended, subject to conditions of good behavior for 10 years, supervised probation, warrantless searches, and restitution of $1,000 to the Virginia State Police.  The undercover purchase initially took place on August 29, 2014.

Clement said the active sentence fell within the sentencing guidelines range.

The court allowed Whitehead to participate in the work release program of Piedmont Jail if he is found to be eligible and if approved by the jail.  He is to report to the jail on September 13.
