Chesterfield Woman, Green Bay Youth Die in Separate Accidents

Virginia State Police Trooper D.L. Hughes is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Charlotte County on Saturday, April 18. The crash occurred at 3:39 p.m., on Route 360, approximate ½ mile east of Route 623.

A 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck was traveling east on Route 360 when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree. The impact of the crash caused the pickup to spin around and strike several more trees.

The passenger, Shelly S. Carter, 60, of North Chesterfield, Va., died at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt.

The driver, John S. Carter, 58, of North Chesterfield, Va., was transported to Centra Southside Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was charged with reckless driving.

The crash remains under investigation.

Virginia State Police Trooper J.T. Fariss is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Saturday, April 18 in Prince Edward County. The crash occurred at 6:09 a.m., on Route 696, less than a mile south of Route 629.

A 1996 GMC Sierra pickup was traveling along Route 696 when it ran off the left side of the road. The vehicle struck an embankment and then a tree.

Its driver, Joshua P. West, 22, of Green Bay, Va., died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
