LUNENBURG – Shannon Marie Loflin, a 27-year-old Charlotte County woman of 601 Scott Road, Saxe, Va., was sentenced recently in Lunenburg Circuit Court to an active sentence of 12 months in jail on one felony charge of Distribution of a  Schedule II Substance, Oxycodone, and one charge of Felony Child Neglect.  She has an additional nine years suspended.

P--Shannon LoflinAccording to Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert Clement, the defendant sold 10 Oxycodone pills on July 17, 2013 in an investigation conducted by the Tri-County Narcotics Task Force under the supervision of Lunenburg Deputy Sheriff Brian Burns.  The task force waited until the other operations at that time were completed over a period of a year and until other issues could be completed before Smith was indicted on February 2, 2015.  She was arrested February 10, 2015.

Loflin was also convicted of Felony Child Neglect as a result of a child being in the car for the transaction.

The defendant had no prior criminal record except for two similar offenses that occurred in Charlotte County during the same time period as part of the undercover investigation. The sentencing guidelines called for a mid-point of one year, five months, and a range of nine months to one year, seven months, according to Clement.  He felt the judge took into consideration the defendant’s claim of having a severe addiction to the painkillers herself, and her claim that the undercover operative purchasing the pills from her was a friend whom she thought was desperate because of pain he was supposedly suffering.  Loflin received a one-month active sentence in Charlotte County. Loflin also lost custody of her children in Charlotte County.

In addition, the defendant will be subject to conditions of a suspended sentence of nine years subject to conditions of good behavior for 10 years, supervised probation for two years, counseling, warrantless searches for five years, and restitution to the Virginia State Police for the “buy-money” in the amount of $100.
