Charlotte Ponytails teamGOOCHLAND – The Charlotte County Ponytails All-Star team traveled to Goochland this past weekend for the Ponytails Division State Tournament after advancing through district play earlier this summer.

The Charlotte team had to battle tough opponents and the hottest weekend of this year so far, but represented themselves and their county well.

The first opponent at the Virginia State Tournament was the host team, Goochland. Abbigail Moore got the start pitching for Charlotte and threw 3 1/2 strong innings before she became overheated from the near triple digit temperature.

Tiara Hurt took care of the next inning and a half of work on the mound for Charlotte while Georgi Martin had a strong game behind the plate. On offense, Moore and Mesha Clark both would score for Charlotte, but the two runs would not be enough and Goochland got the win.

Charlotte would face off against Emporia in their second round match-up. Emporia had a strong team and played well in getting the victory over Charlotte to end their State Tournament run.

Tiara Hurt and Abbigail Moore both saw time on the mound with Hurt getting the start and Moore closing the game out. Moore would score the only run of that game for Charlotte on an RBI by Clark.

Congratulations to the team and coaches on a strong All-Star run this summer.
