For the past 55 years Dixie Youth Baseball has made the national pastime available to the youth of Charlotte County. After three Virginia State runner-up titles, four Virginia State championships and numerous District titles, Charlotte County Dixie Youth Baseball has a proud history.

However, by far the biggest accomplishment over the years has been the joy brought to the boys and girls in learning the games of baseball and softball. Being part of a team is one of the best life lessons anyone can have. Children learn to put the team ahead of personal goals, and learn that discipline, hard work, teamwork and loyalty can bring about accomplishments individuals can only dream about.

Over the years thousands of Charlotte County boys and girls ages 4 to 18 have enjoyed Dixie Youth baseball and softball. Many have gone on to play for Central Middle and Randolph-Henry at the highest level of competition. Some have also gone on to play college ball and a few to play at the professional level. At whatever level they played, the best lessons were first taught them on the fields in Wylliesburg, Phenix, Drakes Branch, Keysville and Charlotte C.H., by men like Carl Vassar, Mac Card, Jimmy Taylor, Billy Boliek, Charles Harding and the hundreds of others who volunteered to build the fields, bathrooms and concessions stands, cut the grass, line the fields, cook the hotdogs and keep these programs going. Those lessons that make a child a real “teammate” are what Dixie Youth Baseball has helped to bring to the children of Charlotte County. Not every game, player, coach, or parent has been perfect over the years, but just think of the good times, good friends and exciting experiences that these 55 years of baseball have created.

The next time you are in a group of Charlotte County baseball fans just ask about Dixie Youth Baseball and sit back and listen to the stories that are sure to be told. Some may even have a bit of truth to them as baseball stories have a real kinship to “fish stories.” The memories of the young men and women still inspire us to reach for the stars, but most of all they inspire us to continue to instill the qualities in boys and girls that will last a lifetime. Most good things in life require dedication, hard work, loyalty and teamwork. That is what Dixie Youth Baseball is really all about.

So congratulation to Charlotte County Dixie Youth Baseball for the past 55 years and here’s to 55 more great years!
