Chargers Win Over Campbell Propels Them to States

Chargers win 1 Chargers win 2 Chargers win 3 Chargers win 4 Chargers win 5VICTORIA – After a first round win over Cumberland, the Central Chargers varsity baseball team took on William Campbell last week for a shot to return to the Virginia State Playoffs and came away with a 4-2 victory.

Central got on the board first as LJ Watson, Nate Nowlin and Christian Hall each had hits to put the Chargers up 1-0. Central added a second run in the second inning as Jackson Dalton reached base and then scored on a single by Dalton Ashworth to put the Chargers up 2-0.

The game remained the same with Ethan Hoover on the mound and the Chargers defense playing well. Central added two more runs in the fourth inning when Austin Hall and Dalton reached base. Watson drove in Hall and Dalton scored on a Nowlin RBI to put Central ahead 4-0.

William Campbell answered back in the top of the fifth inning as two runs scored on a walk, hit batter and double to make the score 4-2.

The Chargers defense held up over the final two innings and Central will return to the State Playoffs for the first time in over two decades. Hoover ended the game on the mound with eight strikeouts, five walks and two hits. Christian Hall came in for the save as he worked the final inning and two-thirds while allowing no hits and runs.
