CHS Bball 1The Central Chargers Boy’s Basketball team continues to battle for the top spot in the Conference as the regular season winds down. Central suffered a tough loss to Bluestone, who is the first place team in the James River District, last Friday night but rebounded with a win over Amelia that put them at the top of the Conference this week.

The Chargers would start off slowly against the Raiders as neither team could get the offense going early on. The first quarter would end with Central leading 10-9. Both teams played better in the second quarter and the game remained close as Raymond Alexander and Jeremiah Davis combined for 10 of the Chargers 16 points in the second quarter. Despite that, Amelia still held a 27-26 lead at halftime.

The third quarter would be more of the same as the teams continued to see the lead change hands several times and Amelia led by one point still as the fourth quarter started.

Central would turn up the defense in the fourth quarter and held Amelia to just 8 points. This allowed Central to pull away late and claim a big 61-52 win.

The Chargers were led by Davis, who has been on a scoring tear of late and is averaging over 20 points per game since the break. Raymond Alexander had a big night inside for Central with 18 points. Brandon Scott chipped in 7 points and Andrew Howard scored 5 on the night.
