The Central Chargers and Buckingham Knights Varsity Softball teams had a great game going last week when bad weather suspended the game in the seventh and final inning with Central leading 9-8. However, Buckingham held a 7-5 lead at the end of six innings of play and if the game is not completed and reverts back to the last full inning, the Lady Knights would claim the win.

Both teams would go scoreless in the first and second innings as Hailey Bayne would get strong defense from Kaylee Williams, Emma Hart and Brittany Tomlinson in the field. Lunenburg would not be able to get on the board in the third inning either, but Buckingham got their bats going and scored three runs on three hits and a walk.

Central would get one run back in the top of the fourth inning as Meri Dalton hit a triple to start the inning and later scored to make it 3-1 in favor of the Lady Knights.

The fifth inning would be quiet for both teams as the score remained the same headed to the top of the sixth. The Chargers would start to make their move offensively in the top of the sixth inning as Dalton reached base on a single to start things off. Tomlinson would also reach base and Williams reached on an error. Hart would single in a pair of runners and later score on a Lady Knights fielding error. At the end of the rally Central held a 5-3 lead.

The Lady Chargers lead would not last long as Buckingham would rally in the bottom of the sixth as three walks and two hits were enough to plate four Lady Knights and give them a 7-5 lead going to the final inning.

Central would answer back and take the lead with four more runs in the top of the seventh. Ashley Genova doubled, Williams singled, Hart reached base and TanJaneka White-Freeman doubled. Kayla Anthony would also double during the big outburst and Central led 9-7 with just three outs remaining in the game.

Buckingham would again respond as they scored one run and had runners on second and third when weather forced the game to be suspended with Central leading 9-8.
