chargers-ground-and-poundLUNENBURG – The Central Chargers Varsity Football team hosted William Campbell on Friday night and got back on track with a strong 42-28 victory that was close early on before the Chargers used a punishing ground game to put the win away early in the second half.

Central got an early break in the game as Raymond Alexander recovered a WC fumble on the opening kick. Central used a combination of Malcolm Brown and Dashawn Moore to move the ball down the field with Moore scoring from one yard away. Ben Atkins added the extra point and the Chargers led 7-0 with just three minutes having run off of the clock.

Central got strong defense from Chris Fowler and Dion Graham to force WC to a three and out series on their next possession.

Central continued to use their running attack behind, Jackson Parsons, Garrett Williams, DaQuan Cleaton, Jeffrey Goodwin and Kester Long to move the ball down the field. The 14 play drive ended with a Moore two-yard touchdown and a 14-0 lead for Central.

William Campbell got their offense going on their third possession with an 8-yard touchdown pass to make the score 14-6.

The Chargers quickly answered back with another impressive drive that ended with a Brown 5-yard touchdown run and a 21-6 Central lead. Strong defense from Raymond Alexander John McGrath and Ben Spencer slowed down the WC offense and gave the ball back to Central.

To their credit, WC would not go away quietly and they hit another long TD pass to make the score 35-22 early in the fourth quarter. This time the score came from 12 yards away and put the Chargers ahead 42—22 to seal the victory for Central.
