Sports Pic--Chargers GolfVICTORIA – The Central Chargers golf team won the James River District Tournament last season and after losing a pair of seniors, returns four members, which should have the team back in contention for first place again.

Coach Richard McGrath has a trio of seniors in Cole Williams, Mason Elliott and Austin Hall. Look for Williams to lead the team this season with lone junior Hogan Whitlow also in the mix as the low scorer for Central.

Rounding out the team are freshmen Robert Hite and Hunter Gary.

The Chargers opened the season Tuesday against Randolph-Henry and William Campbell High School at Briery Country Club and R-H took that contest with a team score of 167. Central shot 180 as a team and William Campbell finished with a team score of 206.

The Chargers then took on Amelia County High School and Goochland High School at Amelia Golf & Country Club. Central won that match with a team score of 188, while Goochland shot 197 and Amelia shot 207.

Low shooters for CHS were Cole Williams (37), Hogan Whitlow (44), Robert Hite (50 and Austin Hall (57).
